HC Starck Tungsten Powders, based in Goslar, Germany, has obtained TÜV Nord CERT certification of the CO₂e footprint at its largest production site in Goslar. The data collection supports the company’s ongoing development of its climate strategy, which aims to operate the Goslar site in a greenhouse gas-neutral manner by 2045 and help customers minimise their environmental footprint.

Among other things, the certified data highlights the major importance of tungsten recycling from metal scrap, which reduces greenhouse gas emissions by more than half compared to primary raw materials. HC Starck already covers around 80% of the demand at its Goslar site through this approach.

“To the best of our knowledge, we are the first company in our industry to complete this complex process of official certification,” stated Site Manager Juliane Saupe. “Over the course of two years, our teams literally compiled, analysed, and correlated thousands of individual data points. This initiative once again underscores our commitment to sustainable business practices, not least through the establishment of a circular economy for critical raw materials.”

The CO₂e footprint includes Scopes 1, 2 (market-based), and 3. This encompasses emissions from stationary and mobile combustion and processes; fugitive emissions; emissions from imported electricity and steam as well as fuel- and energy-related emissions; and emissions from purchased goods and services, capital goods, upstream transportation, waste disposal, business travel, employee commuting, and investments.
