SME recognises individuals and companies with its Additive Manufacturing awards

The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) has announced the winners of the 2025 Additive Manufacturing Awards and the AM Pitchfest, held at Rapid + TCT, April 8-10, Detroit, Michigan, USA. The awards aim to recognise the outstanding accomplishments of individuals, teams and companies that have significantly impacted the commercialisation of AM.

Digital Manufacturing Challenge

The Digital Manufacturing Challenge recognises the work of high school, undergraduate and graduate students who design, create and utilise infrastructure-level systems that deploy manufacturing solutions in sustainability, renewable energy and advanced manufacturing.

  • High school winner: Dupont Manual High School
    • Submission: ‘Sustainable and Effective Composite Repairs Using Novel 3D Printed Patch Designs’

AM Pitchfest

Rapid + TCT’s AM Pitchfest is designed to showcase the latest in AM technology to a panel of industry leaders, media and the wider industry. The competition is open to entrepreneurs, startups, and academic spinoffs bringing emerging technology, products, and applications to the market.

The winner will be given the opportunity to exhibit at Rapid + TCT 2026 in a fully equipped booth.

AM Industry Achievement

  • Winner: John E. Barnes, founder and president of The Barnes Global Advisors, and co-founder and CEO of Metal Powder Works

The AM Industry Achievement Award recognises an individual or team for outstanding accomplishments implemented in a commercial/industrial environment that significantly impacts the application of AM in any industry.
