New MPIF Metal Injection Molding (MIM) Materials Standard released
March 24, 2009
The Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF) has released a new MIM standardised material designation code, information, and property data as an addendum to the 2007 edition of MPIF Standard 35, “Materials Standards for Metal Injection Molded Parts.”
The new Low-Alloy Steel standard includes chemical composition and data tables (both inch–pound and SI units) for the MIM-4140 quenched-and-tempered material.
The new standard is posted on the MPIF Web site as a free-access document until it is included in the next printed edition of the standard publication. The pdf may be copied and sent to design engineers and others who specify metal injection moulded parts.
The new standard can be accessed at www.mpif.org/Pubs/35_addenda.asp?linkid=81.
Between published editions of the standard, MPIF advise users to check the MPIF Web site for updates on additional, new standardized materials and property data that may be posted periodically.
