Metallied Powder Solutions, S.A. is a new company based near San Sebastian, Spain, that designs, manufactures and sells metal powders in small batch sizes for special applications and research and development activities. Founded in February 2007, the company has since been developing its manufacturing facility as well as working on new products for a number of specific market segments.

Alfonso González, Metallied’s General Director, told Powder Injection Moulding International ‘It is our intention to cover market segments that are not so interesting for the big companies, as the quantities required are quite small, making it difficult to operate profitably without the flexible production facilities such as ours.

We are geared towards small orders and therefore we have prepared our facilities to provide a quick turnaround for orders from 25 to 500kg of water and gas atomised powders. Iron, copper, cobalt and nickel based alloys are typical products for us, as well as precious metals.’

‘We can provide powders to segments such as powder metallurgy, diamond tools, thermal spray, master alloys, metal injection molding or high speed steels and we are interested in all enquiries from research centres or R and D departments that need small quantities for their activities’.

In Autumn 2007 the company was awarded an award for innovation by ENISA, a Spanish national innovation organisation, as one of the five most innovative companies in the materials and industrial sector.

To support research and development activities, Metallied hired Dr. Miren Sarasola, previously with CEIT under Paco Castro. Dr. Sarasola received the Schunk Materials Prize in 2005 for the design of master alloys aimed at increasing both the density and performance of low alloy steels.
