America Makes and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) coordinating body Additive Manufacturing Standardization Collaborative (AMSC) have announced the availability of a ‘Gaps Progress Report’, tracking the efforts of standards-developing organisations (SDOs) and others over the last six months to address gaps identified in the ‘Standardization Roadmap for Additive Manufacturing Version 3.0.’

The AMSC was launched in 2016 and serves as a cross-sector coordinating body that works to accelerate the development of industry-wide Additive Manufacturing standards and specifications consistent with stakeholder needs to facilitate AM industry growth.

Approximately 300 individuals from 150 public- and private-sector organisations supported the development of the recent roadmap, including representatives of US federal government agencies and national laboratories, SDOs, industry, academia, and others.

Of the 141 gaps in the ‘Standardization Roadmap’, fifty-four gaps/recommendations are identified as high priority, sixty-four as medium priority, and twenty-three as low priority. In ninety-one cases, additional pre-standardisation research and development is needed.

As well as updates on standards, research and conformity assessment activities, the latest report has collated suggested modifications in existing gaps and noted gaps to be considered in future roadmaps.

The ‘Gaps Progress Report’ is available here.
