The full conference programme has been published for Ti-2019, the 14th World Conference on Titanium, set to run from June 10-14 in Nantes, France. The conference is the latest in a series of meetings that have been held every four years since 1968, and brings together the global titanium community for presentations and discussions on recent progress in titanium science and technology.

The organisation of Ti-2019 has been supported by the French Titanium Association and the French Society for Metallurgy and Materials (SF2M) with the endorsement of Region Pays de Loire and Nantes City Council. It has also been led by Patrick Villechaise, Director of Research at the CNRS, member of SF2M and the French Titanium Association and the French representative at the Organising Committee of the 2015 Conference in San Diego (California).

The conference programme includes plenary sessions on June 11 covering the latest research developments in the UK, Japan, USA, Germany, China, Russia, and France, presented by key figures from each nation’s titanium industry. Later on, a special session on additive and near-net shape manufacturing will address the powders and processes involved in Powder Metallurgy and Additive Manufacturing of titanium.

Keynote lectures given during the conference which may be of some interest to readers of PM Review and Metal Additive Manufacturing are as follows:

  • Near netshape forming of Ti-Al based intermetallic alloys – Ruy Yang, Yuyou Cui, Lei Xu
  • Scientific and Technological Advances on Additive Manufacturing of High-Performance Large Critical Titanium Structural Components for the Aerospace Industries – HM Wang, D Liu, HB Tang, SQ Zhang, J LI, T Wang, YY Zhu, XJ Tian
  • Innovative Aerospace and Space Structures made by Additive Manufacturing of Titanium Alloys and Titanium Aluminides – C Leyens, F Brückner, E López, A Seidel, M Riede and A Marquardt
  • Application of Titanium and its Alloys for Automobile Parts – Kazuhiro Takahashi, Kenichi Mori, Hidenori Takebe
  • Exploitation of field assisted sintering technology (FAST) for titanium alloys – Nicholas Weston
  • A New Process for Production of Low Cost Ti Powder and the Sintering of Ti alloy Powder to Achieve Wrought-Like Microstructure and Mechanical Properties – Z Zak Fang

Further sessions will address extraction and powder production, intermetallics, the microstructure and properties of titanium in AM, PM and other production methods, as well as applications for titanium in the aerospace, biomedical and healthcare, marine, gas, and other industrial industries. Sessions will also be held on conventional production methods such as wrought processing, melting and casting of titanium.

On June 11–12, each day’s schedule will conclude with a number of poster sessions on the various topic areas of the conference. Further information on Ti-2019 and details on conference registration are available via the event’s website.
