Ceramic dental implants on the way
July 1, 2007
Both dental professionals and patients are asking for completely metal-free dental restorations in an effort to eliminate potential allergies to metal.
Nobel Biocare of Switzerland has with its Procera® process been at the forefront of the development of metal-free ceramic restorations, but materials and surface technologies were not available until now to offer a metal-free implant that meets the standards of current titanium implants.
Building upon 20 years of experience in industrial dental ceramics, Nobel Biocare has developed a full-ceramic implant that is now undergoing clinical trial in Europe.
The first patients are approaching the two-year follow-up-period Nobel Biocare and the Swedish Faculty of Science in Stockholm have started a joint research project to further advance aesthetic dental ceramic materials.
