Carpenter Technology Corporation, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, has announced that its board of directors elected I Martin Inglis to succeed Gregory Pratt as chairman of Carpenter Technology’s Board of Directors, effective immediately, with Pratt retiring from the role he has held since 2009. Pratt also served as interim president and Chief Executive Officer of the company in 2010 and 2015, and has been a member of the company’s board of directors since 2002.

Inglis has been a member of Carpenter Technology’s Board of Directors since 2003, initially holding the role of Chair of the Audit/Finance Committee. Inglis’ experience includes serving as executive vice president and Chief Operating Officer at Battelle, a research & development enterprise from which he retired in 2014. Prior to joining Battelle, Inglis had served as group vice president, Business Strategy, Ford Motor Company, where he also held various other executive leadership roles, including Chief Financial Officer.

“We are grateful for Greg’s contributions to Carpenter Technology over the last nearly twenty years,” stated Tony Thene, president and Chief Executive Officer. “Greg’s leadership and deep knowledge of our business as chairman of the board over the last twelve years has been invaluable to the company. Greg has been critical in driving our strategy and growth. We will surely miss his presence in the future.”

“We are excited that Martin will succeed Greg as our new Chairman of the Board,” he added, “Martin brings to the role substantial experience with Carpenter Technology, along with extensive expertise in finance, operations and strategy execution. Martin has played a significant role in the company’s strategy development during his years as a board member and has a deep understanding of Carpenter Technology’s operations and vision.”

The board of directors has also appointed Charles ‘Chuck’ McLane, former executive vice president and Chief Financial Officer of Alcoa Inc., and member of the company’s board of directs since October 2020, to the role of chair of the Audit/Finance Committee, and Ramin Younessi to the board, effective immediately.

Younessi served as group president of the Construction Industries Group of Caterpillar, Inc., before retiring in December 2020. In this role, he was responsible for the company’s Earthmoving, Excavation, Building Construction Products, China Operations and Global Construction & Infrastructure Divisions, Global Rental and Used Equipment Services, and Strategic Procurement. Younessi joined Caterpillar in 2013 and also served as Caterpillar’s group president of Energy & Transportation and Vice President of Industrial Power Systems.

Prior to joining Caterpillar, he held a number of senior executive positions at Daimler AG and Navistar Inc. In addition, he has served as a Senior Advisor to Madison Dearborn Partners (MDP), a leading private equity investment firm, and as a board member on several portfolio companies since 2013.

Younessi holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology, a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Syracuse University and a master’s degree in Engineering Management from the University of Maryland. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Illinois and a member of SAE International.

Inglis stated, “We welcome Ramin to Carpenter Technology’s board of directors. Ramin brings over thirty years of commercial vehicle and engine experience and we are confident that his technical, business and leadership acumen will be a significant benefit to Carpenter Technology as we continue to expand our business and our highly engineered, high-performance solutions portfolio across a range of end-use markets and applications.”
