Carpenter strengthens MIM powder portfolio with acquisition of Ultrafine Powder Technology Inc.

March 31, 2008

Carpenter Technology Corp. has announced its acquisition of the assets and business of UltraFine Powder Technology Inc. Founded in 1987, UltraFine Powder Technology Inc. produces fine gas atomized powders which are used in metal injection moulding and other markets.

David A. Christiansen, Vice President, Investor Relations and Business Development, stated that Carpenter will keep Ultrafine Powder’s Rhode Island plant in operation and retain all its employees.

UltraFine Powder Technology will become part of Carpenter’s Powder Products subsidiary, based in Bridgeville, Allegheny County, USA, and Christiansen said some of the firm’s technologies may be applied throughout that unit.

‘UltraFine is one of the leading suppliers in the business,’ Christiansen said. ‘It supplements our product line and is good synergy for us.’

Carpenter Powder Products produces and distributes specialty alloy powders, which included stainless steels, titanium alloys and superalloys. The company is an established supplier to the powder metallurgy and metal injection molding industries with offices in Sweden, Germany and the USA.
