This year’s Formnext Asia Tokyo will launch a new zone, the Academic Area, where researchers will present the latest findings to inform and inspire business professionals. The event’s fringe programme aims to highlight cutting-edge developments in Additive Manufacturing – from automotive and aerospace to academic research.

Over two days, the venue will host twenty-four seminars featuring prominent leaders in the Additive Manufacturing industry. The Special Seminar will cover key topics, including the current utilisation of AM in the automotive sector and ongoing development efforts for aerospace applications.

Hiroyuki Oiwa, representing Toyota Industries Corporation, will present initiatives aimed at increasing the awareness and utilisation of AM machines, as well as examples illustrating their current application within the industry. Keita Terashima of Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) will provide detailed insights into his organisation’s innovative technology, research, and development programmes, which aim to drastically reduce the cost and weight of future rocket structures.

For the first time, a panel discussion will feature representatives from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry alongside the Ministry of Defence. This discussion will cover the government’s expectations regarding the application of AM going forward.

The Industrial Seminar, co-hosted by the Japan Welding Engineering Society Additive Manufacturing Division and the Japanese Institute of Additive Manufacturing, will discuss ongoing initiatives and the current landscape of AM in Europe and the US.

The Academic Presentation, a new feature this year, will showcase research breakthroughs in metal materials for AM and advances in micro AM. Professor Shoji Maruo, from Yokohama National University, will discuss the development and application of micro Additive Manufacturing technology using diverse photocurable ink.

Matthew Diable from the University of Liverpool will present ‘Lighting the way: New polymeric photoinitiators for safer vat photopolymerisation 3D printing.’

In the Exhibitor Presentation, suppliers will introduce their products and latest services. Casio (Young Chan) Kim, a member of HDC Co Ltd, will talk about Solukon and its products related to the post-process powder removal, ADAXIS, MX3D, and CEAD.
