Medical equipment manufacturer Praxis Technology, headquartered in Queensbury, New York, USA, has released a new eBook titled ‘Why the Medical Industry Needs Titanium Metal Injection Molding (TiMIM)’.

The eBook focuses on the benefits of using titanium Metal Injection Moulding for medical applications and presents an alternative to Additive Manufacturing for the medical industry. The company explains that while MIM techniques are widely used in the medical device industry, there are distinct advantages when using medical-grade titanium alloys.

The titanium metal injection moulding (TiMIM) process produces pore-free parts that reportedly provide better corrosion resistance and biocompatibility than stainless steel alloys. Titanium is also said to be significantly more efficient when used in ultrasonic applications.

Praxis Technology’s new ebook includes the following topics:

  • The economic drivers of using TiMIM for medical devices
  • The design flexibility of TiMIM
  • Why TiMIM is a real alternative to Additive Manufacturing
  • Information on titanium alloys, Powder Metallurgy & TiMIM

Founded in 2005, Praxis Powder Technology is an ISO-13485 and AS9100D certified manufacturing company that specialises in titanium components produced by MIM. The company has developed what is reported to be the only qualified TiMIM process in the world. Since inception, Praxis has manufactured over 250,000 implantable devices and has grown beyond the medical sector into the aerospace, defence and consumer markets.
