Arburg to focus on MIM automotive opportunities at World PM2022
August 12, 2022
At the World PM2022 Congress & Exhibition, taking place from October 9-13 in Lyon, France, Arburg GmbH + Co KG, Lossburg, Germany, will demonstrate the production of a major Metal Injection Moulding (MIM) application for automotive engines: primary levers used in advanced valve trains.
Primary levers will be manufactured in the World PM2022 exhibition hall on an Arburg 370 S hydraulic Allrounder injection moulding machine using Catamold 8620 feedstock from BASF SE, Ludwigshafen, Germany. This feedstock was specifically developed for high-performance components in the automotive industry.
A clamping force of 700 kN is used to produce this complex application, which was one of the very first high-performance MIM components to be used within internal combustion engines. The cycle time to injection mould each part is around forty seconds and the injection moulding machine is equipped with a special MIM-grade cylinder. The aXw Control ScrewPilot feature, integrated into the machine controller, enables a stable filling process by regulating the position of the screw.
Arburg’s Allrounder injection moulding machines are widely used in the automotive, consumer electronics, jewellery and watch industries, as well as in the dental sector and beyond. The company’s expertise ranges from feedstock preparation and the production of complex, precision parts through to the integration of assemblies and the conceptual design and realisation of complete turnkey systems.
