Metrocast Italiana: A leading producer of investment castings shares its experience of MIM
Feature article: PIM International, Vol.4 No.3 September 2010, pages 41-43, 1074 words
Metrocast Italiana is one of Italy’s leading producers of investment cast components and in the mid 1990’s the company added a MIM production line to complement its existing business.
PIM International’s Nick Williams visited the company in Gardone Val Trompia and discovered how MIM technology has been able to compete for business with its more established rival.
The steeply wooded valley that leads towards the town of Gardone Val Trompia, close to the city of Brescia in northern Italy, at first appears to be an unusual area for a major metal component manufacturer such as Metrocast Italiana to be located. When reaching Gardone Val Trompia, however, the name on the walls of the largest factory in the town explains all, “Armi Beretta”.
This most iconic of Italian firearms manufacturers was established in the town in 1526 when gunsmith Maestro Bartolomeo Beretta first supplied weapons to the Arsenal of Venice, and the town has been the heart of Italy’s gun manufacturing industry ever since. Today a large number of firearms manufacturers are located here, producing weapons that range from pistols to traditional shotguns.
It was to serve the market for gun components that investment castings producer Metrocast Italiana was established in 1967. A family enterprise, the cousins Marco and Antonio Sabatti today run the business that was founded by their fathers.
