Maetta offers manual PIM process for low volume parts and announces new sales and marketing appointments

25th Sep, 2009

Maetta of Boucherville, Quebec, Canada, specialises in the development of net-shape manufacturing solutions based on PM and PIM for complex gas turbine, orthopaedics, dental and other medical related products. The ‘Maetta System™’ is said to offer rapid and economical prototyping equipment and production lines to produce small parts with complex shapes made from a wide range of metallic and ceramic materials.

A unique ‘manual’ process involves hand filling of moulds with feedstock, compressing the mould, removal of the PIM part and repeating the cycle which takes about one minute. Manual moulds with multiple cavities can also be used and the company states that its proprietary low viscosity feedstock can be processed in soft tooling such as metal filed epoxy, SLA materials or aluminium for both prototyping and production. The company claims that its variant of the PIM process enables the cost-effective production of low volume components, reduces lead-times and lends itself to the development of prototype parts.

The company recently announced the appointment of two new senior sales consultants in the North American and European medical markets and signed a distribution agreement in the field of defence. Diane Adams, Maetta’s North American Medical Sales Consultant, has held several sales positions in the medical sector in the last 20 years, including a role as a Regional Sales Director at Zimmer, one of the world leaders in the orthopaedics market, from 2004 to 2009. Sébastien Henry, Senior Sales Consultant, responsible for the European medical market also holds extensive experience in the medical sector both in North America and in Europe.

Yvan Beaudoin, CEO of Maetta told PIM International, 'We are very excited that Mrs. Adams and Mr. Henry have joined the company. Their leadership and expertise in the medical market will greatly contribute to our rapid growth in this constantly evolving market.’’

Maetta has also signed a distribution agreement with GTDS, a specialist marketing and sales agency focussing on the military and law enforcement markets. 'Their capacity to help us rapidly integrate a highly-competitive, complex, sophisticated and ever changing international marketplace such as the field of defence is very promising for us as we enter this new high potential market segment,’’ stated Yvan Beaudoin.
