MicroMIM technologies
Tiny metal injection moulded parts, or µMIM, as they are often called, have started to go into production for use in miniature devices used in chemical engineering, micro reactors, heat exchangers, mixers for fluidic systems and micro system technology such as mini submarines.
An exciting area of this technology is the generation of microstructured surfaces on medical implants to allow for cell growth.
A key to the success of µMIM is the combination of fine (less than 5µm) powders with a special binder made of different waxes and polymers to produce a moulding feedstock which imparts high strength into the moulded green parts in order to avoid damage of the parts on ejection from the mould.
